Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in Los Angeles: What to Know First
DuraFlex chimney inspection in Los Angeles typically costs between $189 and $349 for a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection, depending on whether we run a camera through the flue. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider – not affiliated with or authorized by the manufacturer – and most inspections take under two hours from the time we arrive to the time you have a written report in hand. If you own a home with a DuraFlex liner in Los Angeles and you haven’t had it looked at in a while, this page will tell you exactly what we check, what we find, and what it costs to put right.
Call (213) 652-7061 and we’ll give you a written price before we even set foot on your roof.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
DuraFlex makes solid liners, but every product has its weak points. Here’s what we actually see on DuraFlex jobs across Los Angeles – the specific failure modes that show up in these flues, not a generic list of chimney problems.
- DuraFlex 316Ti ovalized crush points. The 316Ti alloy liner is tough, but when an installer pulls it through a tight offset in an older Los Angeles chimney – think 1920s Spanish Revival with a wonky smoke shelf – the corrugations can flatten. We find this with our camera rig when we spot a section where the liner walls pinch inward more than 30%. If it’s minor, we leave it and document it. If it restricts draft or traps creosote, we’re replacing that section – and we’ll show you the footage before we quote a dollar.
- DuraFlex Pro seam separation at the coupler band. DuraFlex uses factory-made couplers to join sections, but years of thermal cycling – LA nights in the 40s followed by a blazing fire on a December evening – can loosen the band’s grip on the liner. The symptom: you hear a faint metallic rattle when the wind kicks up, or you notice soot staining where two sections meet. We re-seat the coupler and, if the corrugation is worn, swap in a fresh band. This is a repair we complete on the spot on most inspections.
- DuraFlex 304 rigid liner corrosion near the termination cap. Here’s a Los Angeles-specific reality: coastal marine air from Santa Monica or the South Bay carries salt, and salt accelerates corrosion on uninsulated 304 stainless where condensation collects at the top of the flue. We regularly see pitted, rust-flecked termination sections on 304 liners that are otherwise fine. The fix usually means replacing the top three feet of liner and adding a proper rain cap – not a full reline.
- DuraFlex Smooth Wall delamination at the weld seam. The smooth-wall product is advertised as easier to clean, and it is. But we’ve pulled out liners where the inner smooth layer has started to peel back from the corrugated shell, usually after a chimney fire or repeated over-firing. The telltale sign on a camera inspection is a flap of metal sticking into the flue path. If you see that, stop using the fireplace until we can assess it – that flap can catch creosote and make a future fire worse.
- Aftermarket caps and adapters that don’t match DuraFlex’s profile. This one’s not a DuraFlex defect – it’s an installer shortcut. Some contractors top a DuraFlex liner with a generic cap from a different brand, and the fit is loose enough that rain gets in and drips down between the liner and the old clay tile. We check the mating surface on every DuraFlex inspection and, when needed, install the correct DuraFlex-specific cap or a properly fitted alternative from a chimney-trade brand we trust.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s what a DuraFlex inspection looks like when we do it, start to finish:
- 1
You call, a person answers. Our phones are staffed 24/7 – not a voicemail loop. We’ll ask a few questions about your fireplace, your DuraFlex liner if you know the model, and what prompted the call.
- 2
We show up in the window. You get a real arrival time, and the tech who arrives is uniformed and background-checked. Nathan Corliss runs most of the DuraFlex inspections himself – he’s been at this going on eighteen years.
- 3
We run the camera. Every DuraFlex inspection includes a full video scan of the liner, from the firebox to the termination cap. You watch the screen with us and we explain what we’re seeing. No jargon, no mystery.
- 4
We write it down. You get a written report with photos and a clear list of what’s okay, what should be watched, and what needs work now. If something needs repair, we price it in writing right then – OEM DuraFlex parts where the warranty matters, quality aftermarket where it doesn’t. We’re also experienced with HeatShield and Gelco products, so if a full reline is the better call, we’ll tell you and explain why.
- 5
We do the repair or we don’t. If you want us to fix it, we schedule it. If you want a second opinion, take the video and the report to whoever you like. We’d rather you make an informed decision than a rushed one.
- 6
We leave it cleaner than we found it. The firebox gets a vacuum, the hearth gets a wipe-down, and the guarantee goes in writing. If a covered repair fails, we come back at no charge – that’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Los Angeles for DuraFlex Work
The reason people in Los Angeles call us isn’t because they saw a billboard. It’s because their last chimney company no-showed, or quoted $400 on the phone and $2,600 at the door, or “fixed” a liner that failed again six weeks later. We operate under the Kingswell Guarantee, which means the price is written before we start, the guarantee is written when we finish, and if a covered repair fails we come back and correct it at no charge. We’d rather earn the call than chase it. Say the price first, put the promise in writing, and leave the firebox cleaner than you found it – that’s how we work. And yes, we still service HeatShield and Gelco liners too, so if your home has a different system, we’ll handle it with the same care.
FAQs
No. A professional inspection does not void a DuraFlex warranty. In fact, if you ever file a warranty claim, DuraFlex will want documentation that the liner was installed correctly and inspected regularly. Our inspection report gives you that paper trail. What can void the warranty is an improper repair using non-matching parts – which is why we use DuraFlex OEM components when warranty coverage matters.
A Level 2 DuraFlex inspection with camera footage usually takes 90 minutes to two hours, including setup, the scan itself, and walking you through the report. Level 1 visual checks are faster, around 45 minutes. Call (213) 652-7061 and we’ll give you a firm time window.
Sometimes, yes. Minor repairs like coupler re-seating, cap replacement, or small liner adjustments are often done the same day because we carry common DuraFlex parts on the truck. Larger repairs – a partial reline or full replacement – need a follow-up visit because we’re ordering parts for your specific flue dimensions. Either way, you’ll have a written price for the repair before we lift a tool.
Most DuraFlex liners we inspect in Los Angeles do not need replacing. Creosote buildup, minor surface rust, and stubborn damper assemblies are cleaning and maintenance issues. Replacement is called for when we see structural failure: separated seams, crushed sections, deep corrosion that’s compromised the steel, or liner material peeling into the flue path. You’ll see the camera footage yourself before we recommend anything. If we tell you a liner can wait another season, we mean it.
Yes. We serve Los Angeles and the surrounding areas – including the Westside, the Valley, South Bay, and Northeast LA. If you’re not sure whether we cover your neighborhood, call (213) 652-7061 and we’ll tell you straight.
